Hiya!

I'm Sophie Patterson. I hail from a field near Edinburgh and just graduated from the University of St Andrews. HANS AND PETER began as a wee photo journal just for myself, but I'm now blogging from the other side of the world in Japan! I'm living in Miyazaki Prefecture until August 2014, working as an assistant language teacher on the JET Programme. I'll be detailing my exploits as I navigate through a completely new country, culture, language and job. Hopefully I can be of use to anyone else interested in similar changes, and give some insight on what it's like to be a Scot (or Scoterando-jin!) in Nihon.

  1. Hi Sophie! My name's Olivia, and I've just been accepted to the JET program for the upcoming year. I'm graduating from a university in Texas this May and (assuming all the crazy paper work goes through) heading to Japan at the end of July. My mom is British and I'm a citizen of the UK, so reading your posts about your family and missing Sunday roasts hits close to home!! It's comforting to see that you're having such a great time. Best of luck, and thank you for sharing your stories! - Olivia
