supper

I used to find calling dinner 'supper' pretentious, but it's the only word to describe the kind of  long, low-lit meal where the chat goes on for hours. We ate mustard and rosemary chicken in a white wine cream sauce, with parmesan and anchovy dauphinois potatoes and roasted leeks and picolino tomatoes.

Dessert was vanilla ice-cream, shaved dark chocolate and crushed biscuits, drowned and melted together with hot strong coffee.fee.

It was lovely to catch up with our old housemates and spend far too long sorting everyone we know into Hogwarts houses and discussing which decades we all should've been born in.

family photographs

I love when my Dad visits my Grandma down in Lincolnshire, because he always brings back the most amazing old family finds, whether my now-beloved bike, bracelets from pre-war Norway, medals from my Grandad's time as a Navy Captain, or these gorgeous photographs.

My young Grandma with one of my Aunts.

I love how the trademark Patterson ears are so apparent in most of these!

My favourite - my great Grandfather chilling in a bus some sunny afternoon.

pier-sittin'

The first day of March brought the first day of Spring. Our tutorial on EU economic policy over, there was really nothing for it but to lap up the rays by the sea.

lochinver

A few weeks ago, I escaped the Bubble with two dear friends to Lorraine's home village, a tiny place called Lochinver at the very north of Scotland.

For her 21st birthday, we joined her family and the locals at the pub for dozens of rounds of drinks and dancing till three in the morning. It was clear how very loved she is and what an amazing, close community there is in the village.

We ate pies, went for long walks, watched scary movies in a remote holiday cottage, messed around on an old piano, and drank coffee with an astonishing highland artist as he showed us round his gallery.

It was a lovely adventure.

On Saturday my girlfriends and I attended St Andrews' biggest charity fashion show.

We got dressed up, drank champagne, went crazy for the catwalk and danced in our heels until the wee hours.

a little film about summer

A little film of summer 2011, spent reading in the garden, gallivanting around the festival in Edinburgh, adventuring through Italy with the Boy, and dancing in the kitchen. Music by Tennis.

Exams over, we needed to get out of town and mess around outside.

We squished ourselves into a car and blasted Spandau Ballet all the way, armed with strawberry beer and cigarettes. Nothing better than sitting on a log and watching the sun set.

hello world

My name is Sophie and I'm a student at the beautiful St Andrews in the north of Scotland. I'm starting this wee blog to document my friends, travels and adventures. I like daffodils, dancing, long brunches, old books and new ideas.
